Questions people ask us

Why does one way cost nearly as much as a return?+

Your driver drives back to Addis empty, so a one-way trip costs close to a round trip. If you're coming back, ask for both in one quote.

Can the driver stay with us in Hawassa?+

Yes. Tell us how many days and we quote the driver staying with you, door to door.

Can we stop on the way?+

Yes, as often as you like: coffee, photos, the lakes.

How do I pay?+

In US dollars or the same amount in your own currency. No payment now: the price is fixed before you ride.

The Omo River winding through green bush, seen between acacia trees from a sandy riverbank bluffIs it safe

Can you visit the Omo Valley right now?

Partly. As of late September 2026, Jinka and the Hamar country around Turmi in South Omo are not under do-not-travel advice, and Ethiopian Airlines serves Jinka from Addis Ababa. But official advice warns against travel near the Kenyan and South Sudanese borders (including Omorate and the Lake Turkana shore), to Konso and neighbouring zones on the usual road south from Arba Minch, and to Maji zone in South West Ethiopia Region. In January 2026 two tourists and their driver were killed in a robbery in Suri district, west of the Omo River. Go with a licensed local guide, check the latest advice, and plan the route carefully.

How do you get to Bale Mountains National Park, and what can you see there?

Bale Mountains National Park is about 400 km south-east of Addis Ababa. By road it takes around six to seven hours to the park headquarters at Dinsho, or you can fly with Ethiopian Airlines to Robe (Goba) airport, about 30–40 minutes' drive from Dinsho. The park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2023, protects the world's largest area of Afro-alpine habitat, the Sanetti Plateau, over half of the world's Ethiopian wolves, mountain nyala and the Harenna Forest.

How do you visit Lake Ziway, Langano and Abijatta-Shalla by car?

Lake Ziway, Lake Langano and Abijatta-Shalla National Park line the main road south from Addis Ababa to Hawassa. Ziway is about 160 km from Addis, roughly two and a half hours by car, and Langano and Abijatta-Shalla are around 200 km away. Ziway is known for pelicans, marabou storks and fish at its jetty, Langano for its brown, swimmable water, and Abijatta-Shalla for flamingos and hot springs. Most people see them as stops on the way to Hawassa, and official advice varies for areas off the main road.
